What was covered at what ages? Did it actually help? Any horror stories?

Middle school, starting sixth grade. Mine was co-ed, so you could tell some perverts out there immediately. And yeah, from my perspective, sure. But it was really just reinforcing the same basic stuff that you shouldn't do anyways. Horror stories, yeah. There was some anonymous Q&A at the end, so you could see where a lot of "What if..." questions led to.
